THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND FLEXIBLE SOLAR

CIGS Technology

Thin Film. Flexible Energy.

Copper Indium Gallium Selenide photovoltaic technology changes not only how solar energy is generated, but where solar energy can be used.

Lighter. Thinner. More Flexible.
CIGS EXPLAINED

What Is CIGS?

CIGS stands for Copper Indium Gallium Selenide, a semiconductor material capable of converting sunlight directly into electrical energy.

In a CIGS solar cell, the active photovoltaic layer is extremely thin compared with the silicon wafers used in conventional crystalline solar modules.

Because this photovoltaic material can be deposited onto an ultra-thin flexible substrate, the finished solar cell can bend and conform to surfaces that would be difficult for conventional rigid glass solar panels.

A DIFFERENT FORM OF SOLAR
Solar technology no longer has to be built around heavy glass and rigid frames.

Ultra-Thin

The photovoltaic stack can be produced at an extremely small total thickness, enabling lightweight solar construction.

Flexible

Thin-film cells can bend, curve and adapt to surfaces that are unsuitable for conventional rigid modules.

Low-Light Performance

CIGS technology maintains useful output across changing illumination and cloudy conditions.

Built for Mobility

Lightweight and flexible construction makes CIGS particularly suitable for portable and mobile applications.

ULTRA-THIN ARCHITECTURE

Inside a Flexible CIGS Solar Cell

A flexible CIGS cell is constructed from multiple microscopic functional layers deposited onto a thin flexible substrate. Each layer performs a specific optical or electrical function while the complete photovoltaic structure remains extremely thin.

FROM MATERIAL TO ENERGY

From Thin-Film Materials to Flexible Solar Modules

The flexibility of CIGS begins at the material level. Advanced semiconductor layers are combined with an ultra-thin metallic substrate and transformed into lightweight photovoltaic cells and flexible modules.

REAL-WORLD PERFORMANCE

Solar Power Beyond Perfect Sunlight

Laboratory efficiency is only one part of solar performance. In the real world, solar modules experience changing temperatures, partial shading, clouds, varying solar angles and different levels of illumination throughout the day.

AURICU CIGS photovoltaic performance

Long-Term Stability

CIGS technology has demonstrated stable photovoltaic performance across long-term real-world operation.

Temperature Performance

A favorable temperature coefficient helps reduce power loss as panel temperature increases.

Partial Shading

Flexible thin-film cell architecture can retain useful output when part of the module is shaded.

Changing Light

Broad-spectrum light absorption supports useful generation during mornings, evenings and cloudy weather.

DIFFERENT BY DESIGN

Why Make Solar Flexible?

Because many of the places that need energy were never designed around a rigid rectangular panel.

ROLL
Compact transportation and easier storage.
BEND
Adapt to curved, irregular and unconventional surfaces.
MOVE
Bring solar energy to mobile and portable applications.
A NEW WAY TO THINK ABOUT SOLAR
Conventional solar asks:
“Where can we install a panel?”

Flexible solar asks: “Where could we generate energy?”
